Look carefully and you can see the black bear. One of two we saw on the trip.

Lumberjack's Stools

Jeremy carried most of these stools 100 yards so we could have something to sit on around the fire. Thanks Jeremy.

The Bridge

This is a picture of the Bridge at the Refuge interpretive center.  The interpretive center is the demarcation point for your paddle to the island.  I came back to this spot to take this picture being that I didn't have my SLR during the trip.

"Spice" racking out on the blades.

Another Chill Shot

While others huddled by the firepit that was in the shade, "Spice" retreated to the soft grass and the warm sun to restore his strength.  He was either catching up on podcasts or reading a book on kindle to pass the time.

Waking up Early

Waking up early provided beautiful scenes where even this ubiquitous plant seemed to take on dazzling new appearances.

My Tarp

Slept well under my tarp during the trip.  I actually brought along the zero degree sleeping bag, but it was not needed.  Even the four season pad proved overkill for the excellent weather we ran across.  I have become a firm believer in tarps, having pitched them in various conditions.  Now blowing snow would suck, or high winds period, but so far I have been fortunate.  I think the craziest thing about my tarps location this trip was that warm air from the fire was actually getting trapped under the tarp.

Welcome to the Long Island Wildlife Refuge Site

On this blog you will see posts from our outdoor group that experienced LIWR. If you are an author of a post, please include picture and/or story to the blog as post. I often run into the habit of just throwing up pictures, but lets attempt to tell some stories of the trip, "pg" of course. This will be a public site after all :-). Unless you guys want to make it private. Vote for your choice on sidebar. Couple more rules, make all images you upload large.

The picture above I took behind my back as we made the turn up Baldwin Slough were we saw our first black bear. During the whole trip, nobody fell into the water. What a shame. From left to right: Lumberjack, R to the P, and up last, The Cook or "Spice".
